FARDYSTOWN REGIONAL WATER SUPPLY SCHEME CONTRACT 3 – CIVIL WORK
The civil works contract for the water treatment plant at Mayglass completed the implementation of the Fardystown Regional Water Supply Scheme which provides 12,000m3/day of potable water to the South East region of County Wexford.
Water is pumped from various borehole locations to Mayglass works for treatment. The process basically consists of aeration of the new water using cascades over weirs followed by rapid gravity filtration through sand /manganese dioxide media. The filtered water then flows by gravity to a pump balancing tank and on to a high lift pump sump before being pumped to the high level water tower. The water from the tower is chlorinated and fluoridated before distribution to outlying reservoirs.
The scope of the work consisted of the following:
Construction of a water tower 65 metres high with a capacity of 3450m3, treatment plant building, reinforced concrete filters, aerators, balancing tank and sludge holding tank and administration building.
