FOYNES EAST JETTY EXTENSION

This project comprised the construction of a new Jetty, which with a reinforced concrete beam and slab deck, which was supported on driven steel, tube piles. The deck construction was commenced as soon as piling was sufficiently far advanced. All materials were handled by a Liebherr 63 HC tower crane mounted on rails on the deck slab. This crane had a 45 metre trolley jib which could reach forward over five bays.

The work comprised:

a) The supply and driving of 63 No. 1067mm diameter, 26m long, steel tube main piles on a 7620mm square grid and 52 No. 508 x 508mm hexagonal steel fender piles in groups of four.

b) The construction of a reinforced concrete beam and slab deck approximately 155m long x 18.3m wide. The structural deck slab is 610mm thick, with 150 to 200mm thick wearing surface. Beams are 1070mm wide, with stem depths 1980mm (cross beams), 1220mm (central longitudinal beams) and 1070mm (outer longitudinal beams).

c) The construction of 13 No. vertical reinforced concrete fender face slabs, each 4880mm wide x 5820mm deep x 760mm thick.

d) The supply and installation of 26 No. cell type rubber fenders connecting the fender face slabs to the jetty structure, and 156m (12m per fender) of Vee type rubber fendering to the outer side of the fender face slabs

e) The supply and installation of cast iron bollards, 11 No. 75 tonne capacity and 8 No. 30 tonne capacity, 9 No. stainless steel 20mm mooring loops, and 6 No. galvanised steel safety ladders.

f) The supply and installation of firemains, portable watermains and lighting services

g) The piles were prefabricated to the required lengths (on site) rolled into the water on runway beams, floated out to the piling rig and driven with a Delmag D62 piling hammer supported by a 120 tonne crane. The fender piles were driven simultaneously with a Delmag D22 piling hammer
